Generally, if we have a "Current Owner" search requesting an "Institutional PMM" or "Out-of-family conveyance", we usually stop if we can find neither after three conveyances or twenty-five years (whichever is less), of course, noting on the report that that's what we did. We then advise the client that any further searching will incur an additional charge. We also spell out that policy on our Price Schedule, so that clients know in advance exactly what they're paying for. We've found that it saves a lot headaches and heartaches, believe me!
