There are current owner searches and then there are *current owner searches*! Pre-foreclosures are often sent as 'current owner' and require a lot of copies, plats, most of an SP file, that sort of thing. If you're in a county like Rowan which charges 50 cents per copy, you can see how this diminishes that $40 in a hurry. And, as Loretta mentioned, by the time you add travel expenses such as gas, then e&o etc, it's pretty tight work. And as you can see, there is no disctinction in this (or most companies' memos) between current owner and REO. It just says "abstract of title".
After the TransUnion deal (mentioned in this forum), many in NC saw new folks at the courthouses doing current owners for $25. Nations Title has been v-e-r-y good to me in the past, and I have done everythng possible to send quality work as quickly as possible, but I have to wonder if I'm headed for the $25 search.
