I, too, am more than happy to lower my fee if I can get volume. My husband and I are in this business together. I have gone to $40 for a few companies because I get their volume. We not only do the title search but we also do the settlements and the recordings. This makes it even more appealing to the title company because we do a variety of things in title work.
The only problem I see with decreasing our fees, this makes it so much harder for the good abstractors like you and I, that have been in the business in "feast and famine" to keep the business when the "fly by night" abstractors come in and take our business with no idea what they are doing. I even had to let one of my employees go (the first one I ever hired), because after 4 weeks of training, names and numbers of some of my clients were in her briefcase that actually fell out right in front of me. Now, I have decided that my husband and I will continue to do this business on our own.
I think alot of abstractors and closing agents are feeling that way.
