The unfortunate part is that we will probably have to just suck it up and not past along the cost unless it goes way beyond the $2.00 a gallon mark. Otherwise the clients will start going bargin hunting for cheaper, inexperienced, and uninsured vendors. Which in-turn makes it harder on everyone. The client ends up with a claim, the inexperienced and uninsured searcher gets sued, and the experienced and insured searcher gets the client back at a much lower rate.
Sounds like a plug for the Abstractor Association. One of the goals is to raise the professional standards for searchers and help guide that new searcher through the risks and perils of their new choosen profession. Title searching is not as easy as it sounds and once new person really finds out about it, they will either want to plunge ahead in their new endevor and get the experience and insurance required to survive in this business or try something else. It is not get rich quick, it is a slow business building opportunity and faces the same risks of every other business out there and more.
Join us in Columbus, Ohio for the first Abstractor Conference June 4th,5th and 6th. SOT has posted conference information just a click away from the SOT Home page. See you there. Jay
