It's really a good idea. I've searched for info on this before and haven't found much. Not sure if you'd need a tripod or just some way to measure the distance to the doc to get good repeatable results. There are cameras made specifically for this, but the price range is 2k to 3K, however, HP has a new one out that has a doc capture feature, HP photosmart R707.
