If you agreed to take the work then I believe you are ethically bound to try to record the documents. I would not however front the recording fee. I would bill them for each recording that you do. Keeping good records will be necessary. Get an order form from them for each recording that they are asking you to do prior to recording them, you will need it for bookkeeping and also make a copy of the front page of each recording to keep with that order form. Prior to starting any working for any company you might want to check with a collection agency on how well they pay thier bills. I've used NCO before and can get the number for you in the morning if you e-mail me. They can check by the company's phone number if they have been placed with them for collections. You can also ask your fellow SOT members for their advise on a particular company and they can post it or e-mail you privately. I know starting with a new client can always be scary, will they pay, will they be a pain in the rear-end, or will they be the greatest client you have ever had. That is the nature of any business; hope for the best, expect the worst, and be happy with someone that pays the bill. Good luck, Jay
