Here in CT, we do all of our work in the field at the Town Halls. There are a few municipalities who have their indexes available on-line. It is great to be able to get recording dates, re-checks etc. Just recently some municipalities started imaging their documents, most in the last year. Frankly, I don't trust all the information. There have been many times, when doing a manual search where we find documents that are improperly indexed or cross referenced. As far as I'm concerned there is no substitute for field work, it is the only way to do a diligent search. Now maybe it's different in other states, but I sure won't rely on someone else's work. Just today I found a Judgment that wasn't properly indexed, lucky I found it! The way I see it is: if there are that many problems with manual searching, how can we rely on electronic searches?
