Your statement of what it is concerns me. However, this is my answer - in my state - the State of Texas - the documents are cross referenced by the lot and block of the property along with the volume, page of the Plat the property is located in. In some states I heard cross-referencing is actual the street address. I cannot imagine that in all states there is no form of cross-referencing even if it is in books that you could access. Even our older records that are not indexed on the computer - each record states the property that is part of the document and can be searched by Grantee then by Grantor which provides a cross-reference by searching both ways to make sure all records are caught.
