I have this problem in Maryland also. We are starting to go "computerized". One county I do has totally gone to computer and removed all books, this makes me ill. We have found so many mistakes. Mortagages and deeds not listed or mispelled when indexed. I would like to add a disclaimer to my abstract so that I can cover myself but will that really work anyway if someone does file a claim against me?
Someone, somewhere, needs to start making the clerk accountable if they are getting all of those recording fees. We, the abstractor, are ultimately responsible and I do not think that this is fair. By 2006, recordings will be done via email and there will be no need for an abstractor recording docs.
