I understand your concern Doug, but this clear cutting makes it much easier to spot anyone tampering with the line. Clearing a perimeter is the first step of providing security to any area.
With even a general location the pipeline could have been found with the right equipment. Even a good metal detector would have probably done the trick. Now the pipeline can and probably will be monitored from overhead. Anyone attempting to tamper with it will be easily spotted.
I'm thankful to hear someone is keeping an eye on this security threat. Can you imagine the chaos that would result if even one of these is blown up?
Several years ago an electrical station was blown up when maintenance people accidently sprayed tap water on a terminal instead of distilled water. Electrical service was taken out in 5 states for several hours and in some cases days.
