Yes, it took courage for the county clerk there to take this step. I am not sure he would have been able to if he had been the one responsible for the bulk release in the first place. But he obviously cares about the safety and security of his constituency.
This was the first article I had been able to find where a public official would admit to the hemmorhaging of the public record through bulk release of the digitized data.
In spite of what some have written here on SOT the private lives of American citizens is not a commodity for sale to anyone. As more people and legislators are learning the dangers of bulk transfer of the digital data they are beginning react. The legislators I have spoken with are mad as hell!!
