Please do not confuse NALTEA's proposed certification with SOT certification. SOT certification was created to indicate to clients that those abstractors have E&O insurance and have agreed to a baisc code of conduct. For more information please see /certification.aspx.
The SOT certification runs concurrently with the term of the E&O insurance and to maintain it, the abstractor must provide us with a new copy upon renewal. It is not as comprehensive as what NALTEA plans, which includes testing and continuing education.
In my opinion, NALTEA's certification will carry much more weight and is a much better way to handle it. Once NALTEA is ready to offer certification Source of Title will no longer offer its version. Those who are SOT certified will be encouraged to pursue certification through NALTEA instead.
