Donna,
When I read the article about Realty Data acquiring bulk records from 64 counties, not to mention all of the other records they seemed to have gotten their hands on, it just made me cringe. I guess the saying "everything has it's price" is true. This is so disturbing. It upsets me because first of all, it's a dangerous invasion of privacy. I know that it is all a manner of public record, but we are talking about putting very personal information into the hands of millions of people around the world. With all of the unrest going on in the world today, it astounds me that anyone would be okay with this. From an abstactors point of view, I cannot even consider doing any kind of a search without physically going into the courthouse and researching the records there. It is inconceivable to me that some think that the bulk records from a court house would be enough to do an accurate and reliable search! Please Donna, don't give up on our profession. We need more abstractors who truly do love their jobs, and will not compromise their integrity in order to make a quick buck. I suggest that you mass market yourself. Go to the business directory here on SOT. Go online and look for all the notaries and title companies in and around your state. It might take a little while, but I bet you it will be worth it! I wish you the best of luck.
