Judy - A man out here I know who runs a title plant and has abstractors wants everyone to keep a minimum - no one goes below a certain amount. It would be hard to completely standarize something - too many variables involved including location of the abstractor, experience of the abstractor, including any related certifications or educational degrees of the abstractor and we just can't all decide to keep the same price - just as Kevin has said there are laws against it. But all agreeing that no one goes below a price, then the price range would be much less than it is now - probably at the most 5-10 dollars between us. Just my comment about your fees could be wrong actually - for here you are in a good range - for CA I don't know - the cost of living is one of the highest out there isn't it? Just like JT in New York - high cost of living. Texas is one of the higher costs but not like you two. Funny we think that all the variables should matter and that we do price according to that - companies just take you are an abstractor and that is all. Now should it suprise me that several companies said they have learned their lesson - one told me they got Deeds of Trust instead of Warranty Deeds for doc retrievals and one told me that the work was so bad with one that they refused to pay her entire month's work. So maybe some things are being done and more caution will be made. Other than that, like we are all saying - I think it would be best to price what you think you need to run your business and work on providing quality and service.
