Let's call a spade a spade here. The only real cost in an abstract is the time. I don't know what is entailed in your current owner search, but to me that sounds like a deed chain back to a good consideration and a tax map. What does that really cost to produce? And how long does it take?
If your profit margin is not to your liking, you have to consider what you are charging for the work in the first place, not carry a grudge every time there is a question on work that you do...
