Alright, I'll give my opinion on this.
I don't think marketing to the general public is a good idea. First, is the unauthorized practice of law issue. I don't know how things work in all of the states, but I would think that providing a title search to an individual would certainly be boarderline. Second, is the liability you would have. I think that you would have a great amount of liability providing this information to a layperson, since they aren't familiar with what we do. If they have a loss because they misunderstand something, they would likely be able to sue you for not explaining it. And, of course, if you do explain it - you are giving legal advice.
I, personally, won't do work for laypersons. I think its too risky, and could be considered the unauthorized practice of law.
Just my opinion. Anyone who is considering this type of work should definitely consult with an attorney.
