I agree with Ellen, This does seen a little odd. 1997 is too recent for a bank to not discharge a mortgage, even if there is a successor for this bank since their defunct (or whatever the situation) there should be some type of notorized statement from the bank or its successor discharging this mortgage. I would be very uncomfortable stating on my reports that this mortgage is satisfied. It seems to me that this ''Recent Mortgage Affidavit'' could become just another fraudulent activity within the industry (i.e. mortgage elimination scheme). In the very least this mortgage holder must have a valid notary present to witness and stamp this authorization to release his own mortgage
