We have both types of indexing here: Grantor/Grantee and Geographic. Geographic counties have Grantee/Grantor indexing, its required by law, but they also index all of the documents by their legal description. For instance if I am searching Inlot 2500 in the City of Galion, I can pull the Glaion Inlot Book and find the page with Inlot 2500 and it will give me all of the documents filed right there. There is no need to run the Grantor in the Grantee index to find my next deed, no need to pull a separate book to look for easements, etc. Everything effecting that lot is right there in one place. Of course, now that they are on computer its even easier. You just click on the city and enter the lot number.
It is really nice and cuts a lot of time off the searching process; I would say as much as half, in some cases. It can still get a little tricky if you have a tough metes and bounds description or parts of lots, but it still beats the Grantor/Grantee index.
