That is an interesting thought. I would see a major difference there, though. Providing notice to the public regarding sex offenders that may be in their area is for the protection of the public. There is a greater good for the public in this type of notice.
I would say that there is no reason to publish a sex offender's social security number online, however. Even sex offenders should be protected from that kind of violation. Of course, one would have to be nuts to want to steel the identity of a sex offender. I don't think even identity theives would really want that kind of attention.
