Robb,
I found your synopsis to be very intriguing. It is hard for us to admit we made much more
money years ago. When most would be getting raises with years of experience our profession
is getting paid less and less(much like local musicians). I don't think it is the experienced abstractors who have caused this trend. It is the VMC's who don't know the first thing about our jobs. Maybe they should! Instead of having sales reps coming to each lender in an area to try to get their business, maybe the should check out the record room. Maybe they should meet who the searcher is. Do you think when they see an eighteen year old doing their work they would have the same feeling of confidence? Do you think it would seem a little strange to them to see abstractors letting their on summer break children checking judgements? Do You Think They Would Still Just Insist on a lower price? Do you think their office staff wears shorts & half shirts to work?
So much for professionalism.
