This is a very timely thread. I just spoke to someone at another law firm. They had just spent a year and one half foreclosing on a commerical property in down town New Haven only to find out that they had only a part of the legal description in the complaint. The case had already gone to judgment. Fortunately they discovered the mistake within the four months permitted to reopen the case, amend the complaint and secure a new judgment.
