Here, in Ga, loans are called security deeds. Assignments may or may not be cross referenced. Depending on which county you are in, you may have to grantor the loan company to find the correct chain of assignments as they are not indexed under the borrower's name. Wish it could be so easy here! There are often gaps in the chain of assignments and you have to grantor each & every assignee if you are suspicious that the loan may have been assigned further. Liens in Ga are good for 7 yrs, can be renewed--FTL's 10 yrs, Federal judgments, 20 yrs. MML's-1 yr, unless suit is filed. Atty's liens, appear to be good forever.
