It seems to me housing your data outside the confines of the corporate office would be a huge risk. Especially if the server is in any way connected to the Internet. As with most information based companies, your databases are your greatest asset. Choicepoint showed how easy it is for scammers to gain access and Lexis/Nexus was unable to protect their online servers from hackers. If the system provider outsources the data entry or manipulation, wouldn't this mean your most valuable asset is being transferred outside the control of either you or your provider? Many technology companies routinely house data offshore where our laws and protections do not apply.
