There was an interesting feature on CBS News last night about a federal construction site here in Connecticut. They interviewed several of the laborers all of whom were illegal aliens. The laborers had their faces obscured so that they would not be deported south of the border. They were actually complaining that they only received $13.00 per hour (half of that paid to the U.S. citizens) and NO BENEFITS either. They were quite upset at being mistreated.
It appears that things are no better on our northern border either. The RCMP and INS just busted a smuggling ring that smuggled illegal Indian and Pakistani aliens from Vancouver to Washington at $35,000.00 per head. Apparently the price included providing the illegal immigrants with false passports and identification as well as transportation across the Canadian border. So much for homeland security.
America has very few friends in the international community, including our esteemed Nato Allies (Excepting the Brits of course). It is amazing that even though we are held in such low regard internationally, these people have no compunction about violating our immigration laws to take advantange of the benfits provided by our system. Actually, I think it is time that we re-examined our role in the international community, put an end to foreign aid and other financial contributions that have outlived their usefulness, and spent the money here on universal healthcare and social security reform.
