I think some journalists and government officials in Suffolk County have taken an interest. I know Newsday has done some good articles. Here is one.

I think they are planning to try and gloss over this with the claim they can make the people safe with redaction software. This is a farce. The software is incapable of doing anything at all with the millions of copies that have already been datamined. It can't find the hand written socials let alone medical information, mother's maiden names etc. I think this will be part of the focus of the USA Today article. I know he asked me several questions about it. The concept was bogus from the beginning. I think the software companies know this but the sales people want admit it. Their disclaimers and non-warranties tell the full story.
If Suffolk county does not bend to the will of the people, the next step may be a class action suit.
