The section 8 violations run rampant with what amounts to embezzlement by padding or marking up the HUDs, lines 1101 and 1102 seem to be open areas to let the greedy rip off the consumers. I have seen mark ups of over 5 times the actual title fee done by some settlement companies, even have one that actually listed a $100 fee to "hand record" the documents! The more disturbing aspect of this kind of activity is that it certainly gives a poor reflection on the abstract or title searchers and that is seems to be a universal way to add more bottom line money for the settlement companies without having to explain the charges other than , that is what the title costs-no way- every settlement company adds fees to those lines- and that in itself is a sad reflection on those companies that do this kind of thing just to increase the amount of money they walk away with from the transaction. It is disgusting to know that those you think you know are ripping off us and the consumer, all with the blessing of the big title companies too, I see from a number of the articles on here that the "big ones" just keep doing it and getting caught-pay the fines and go on with business as usual in some other part of the country-all revolve around the "kick-back" that we all know about-and also know is illegal right from the start. It must be good money to just keep promoting the use of the "added" fees they all do.
