A collegue of mine is leaving with his family to Israel tomorrow. He has no reservations about going whatsoever. He is leaving the US permanently btw. I asked him about all the violence and he put it in this perspective. "What about the 350 other days there are no shootings or bombings?" Why doesn't the news report that? I see his point, but as a mere matter of self preservation, I choose the path of least resistance. I prefer to have the odds in my favor. Call me a coward, but I do have a nice sense of security here in the burbs. I know terror has no limits for it's reach, but there is something to be said about not inviting it into your front door. This middle east fight has been going since the beginning of time. Hatred that lasts that long is hard to extinguish. Sometimes I think God is looking down and shaking his head at us for all the vicious things we do to one another. We cheat each other, we make decisions for ourselves before thinking of others. Is there an end in sight? And by the way, no I'm not drinking this early in the morning, I wait at least till noon.
