We rarely see a HUD statement on our end except from a select few clients that use the HUD as proof of pay off for a same lender refi discount on taxes (In Fairfax, VA there was a little problem with people requesting and getting same lender refi county/state grantee/grantor tax exemption even though it wasn't really the case). Anyway, we have seen where they list the tite examination fee as several times over what we are paid to do the search and the recording. I questioned one PA client in particular about the legality of this issue and was told that once I turn in my search they have an title examination team that retypes my search in to their system and the fee they collect for the title examination on the HUD includes both my fee for doing the search and their fee for 'examining' my search. Seems like splitting hairs to me. What do you think?
