Let's see, after going to the financial risk and expense of finding the oil, pumping it out of the ground, shipping it to the refineries, refining it into the over 24 different "eco-friendly" blends required around the country, trucking it from the refinery to your friendly neighborhood "fillin' station", the oil companies, on average, make roughly .07¢ for every dollar they invest.
The government, on the other hand, sits back and does nothing (unless you count the endless investigations of the oil companies who actually produce something), and for this they get as much as .585¢ per gallon!
Now, who's gouging whom?
