Hello Wendi
I've been in the title businees since 1974...started out at the home office of Chicago Title. Now in private law practice in Tennessee, I'm also a techno junkie. For what its worth here are my thoughts:
As for laptops I have used various dell notebooks over the last twelve years...they are pretty solid. Used a Sony for about two years...very sexy looking machine but could not take the abuse. I pound on my dell all day long. Have never used a tablet so can't advise there.
I also use
CallWave...very cheap but also very reliable. A notice will pop up on your screen when a fax comes in. A copy also is automatically sent to your e-mail. They are in pdf format. You get a local fax number plus a free phone number which I forward to my cell. Shoot me a fax and I'll forward a copy back to you...you can see how long it takes me to get it and what it looks like.
As for phone, believe it or not I just use
Skype and am very happy. I use both the
SkypeOut and
SkypeIn optional services. The
Skype Voicemail works great. I also use an addon called
HotRecorder to record calls when needed. Another great addon is
CallButler.
What do you need in the way of software ? Perhaps I can advise a bit. For example I have used
HotDocs for years for automated document assembly. I use
QuickBooks for bookeeping and invoicing. I use both Microsoft WORD and WordPerfect...but before spending big bucks for an office suite like Microsoft Office, please consider
OpenOffice.org from Sun Microsystems ...its free ! Do you need a website. I build my own from scratch (I have six at the moment) and can give you some free advice in that department too.
Sincerely,
W. David Case
