Jay: I am not a member of NALTEA yet, and I say "yet" since these are not the best of times as far as bringing in the big bucks of yesteryear. The more I stay on here the more I tend to start to agree with the NALTEA mission, maybe not all the small details, but the overall protection they might be able to provide as far as the respect for the profession or the search worthiness of the individual abstractor is concerned. Maybe I have that wrong, maybe "respect" is not the correct term- I think there needs to be more respect for our end product and it's value to the consumer, settlement company, title insurance agent, and title insurance company. It has been pointed out by those that are in the know, that what we do does constitute the basis or primary aspect( some might say, the most important part) of the entire real estate transaction. I do feel the same about that- they call me first to "see" if it can be done, in the time to meet the customers needs- hardly ever do they ask for a deal on the fee!
New Orleans will just have to wait for those big checks to start rolling back in too, but I will be a lot closer by then, moving from Virginia to Nashville next month.
