Thanks, Wendi.  I can personally vouch for the good folks at the Wounded Warrior Project, as I was in charge of organizing a fundraiser for them through our church last summer.  The Hope Lives Foundation is also a reputable outfit.  Although I have had no personal dealings with HLF, I am acquainted with its founder, Jim Toner, a prominent local businessman with impeccable credentials.
