Alright... I gotta try for the "Extra Credit." I'm going to guess that it would be 1:7.6, or to put it another way, there is only about a 13% chance that there would be NO ties in 5 throws.
There is a 2 in 3 chance that there will not be a tie on each throw. 2/3 to the 5th is approximately 0.132... or approximately, 1:7.6.
When it comes to math - I am an idiot. Algebra for Dummies, and some tutoring by a friend, got me through my CLEP test in undergrad. But I think hope I learned something in this thread. Thank God there aren't any math classes in law school!
