Maybe nobody answered Gayle's question because 1. they haven't heard about the conference and can't provide an answer; 2. Don't care; or 3. Like you said, think the speakers are the same year-in, year-out and the content is old.
I'll make an argument against No. 3. Of the 41 or so speakers slated for this years National Settlement Services Summit being held June 17-18 at the Marriott at Key Center in Cleveland, only 11 have appeared on stage during the previous three conferences. A good portion of the speakers this year are independent agents that will be offering their strategies in sales and marketing, and operations.
Neither of the two keynote speakers (Kurt Pfotenhauer, CEO of ALTA; and Carter Murdoch, Bank of America) have ever spoken at our events, but both will provide great insight into the future of the industry.
I'd fathom to guess there aren't too many independent organizations that attempt to put on such a conference on a national scale. Not only are we bringing in several independent agents to share their wisdom, but we also have a handful of consultants, industry veterans and key executives from national and regional underwriters. Please do check out the speakers.
Just for a quick comparison, here's the link to this year's conference and the 2007 conference:
2008: http://www.octoberresearch.com/seminars/ns3/2008/speakers.cfm
2007: http://www.octoberresearch.com/ns3/2007/speakers.cfm
As you will see, seven of this year's speakers did speak at the 2007 conference. That means of the 41 speakers we have lined up this year, 34 are new, or 83% of them.
Even though we are a bunch of slackers by bringing back seven of the same speakers, there is a lot of work put into the show to provide information and tools to help settlment service companies operate more effectively and efficiently. We even have an advisory panel consisting of industry professionals helping us develop useful and relevant content.
If anyone has any suggestions for "new topics, new ideas or new speakers," please let us know. You can e-mail me at jyohe@octoberresearch.com.
