Hi Scott,
Thanks for the thoughts and prayers. We have actually faired pretty well here in the Des Moines area as far as the flooding compared to the floods of '93. The levees that were re-built after that flood have been holding and the water is starting to recede. Not so for the Cedar Rapids and Iowa City areas though. I have done searches in Both cities in the past and I would not be surprised if all the records in Cedar Rapids are now lost as I doubt that they would have gotten them moved prior to the flooding there. The Recorder's office was in the basement level of the administration building there which is in a different location than the courthouse but still close enough to the river there and the courthouse is right next to it which I know did get flooded by seeing it on TV. The courthouse had the traffic and criminal records departments on the basement floor in the courthouse and I would be surprised if all those records were saved either, but I suppose anything is possible if they took heed early enough and had the manpower to move it all. I don't think Iowa City's government buildings will be effected as they aren't close enough to any bodies of water. We're expecting more rain on Sunday, but after that we should see some drying out time for much of the remainder of the week which would be nice. I think my sump pump is due for some time off...lol.
