I saw a piece on the local TV news about Animal Friends, a no-kill shelter sponsoring a "Liberation Day", an event in which the organization rescues pets from animal control facilities where they risk being "put down". Here's a link to an article in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
While the efforts of such organizations is laudible, it's funny how distressed animals can evoke such compassion in humans, even in those who seem to have little or no compassion for their fellow man.
