This just underscores how woefully misinformed (read: uninformed) the general public is with regard to the title insurance business. The average person has no idea whatsoever what title insurance is, why they need it or how it protects their interests.
At least three times in his article, Mr. Hinton makes assertions without citing any authoritative sources to support those claims. Furthermore, it seems as if the author is using "title abstracting" and "title insurance" interchangeably, not realizing that the two are separate and distinct aspects of the real estate title business.
In my opinion, Mr. Hinton has done his readers a tremendous disservice. One would think that a professional journalist of his stature might have done a little more in-depth research before submitting such an article for publication.
