Like it or not, independent title insurance agents are on the brink of extinction. Battered and bruised by their regulators, underwriters and land title associations, it is imperative for the independent title agent to act in order to save their place in this industry. For this reason, we have now chosen a time and a place for our first national convention.
On Monday, October 6, 2008, the OAITA is sponsoring a national title insurance convention to be held at the Holiday Inn on Rockside Road in, of all places, Independence, Ohio (a convenient suburb of Cleveland, Ohio). The convention will begin at 9:30 a.m. and will run until approximately 5:00 p.m. In order to attend, please confirm your attendance by e-mail (info@oaita.org) or by calling Jennifer O'Boyle at the law offices of Holman, Frank & McDonald (440) 232-9911.
Every seminar I have attended over the past few years, I have heard independent agents talking about what AfBAs are doing to our industry.... and our businesses. These concerns have been ignored by our traditional land title associations and the underwriters. While our state land title associations may do a good job in other regards, their membership is divided on the issue of AfBAs and they cannot adequately represent us. This is a chance to join and support an organization that will act in the best interest of only independent agents.
I plan to attend and I hope to see a good turn out. I know this issue among the most important that small agents face - don't let this opportunity pass you by.
Best,
Robert A. Franco
