Ah, yes, Ft. AP Hill, I remember it well.  Spent many a summer there during Annual Training when I served in the PA National Guard with the 28th Military Police Company.  We used to take US 522 and then hit Route 17 in Winchester.  Same route I use when I want to avoid the Capitol Beltway on the way to the Hampton Roads area.  Very nice scenic drive.
