When I get these calls, I tell them that I cannot make a bid until I start a little preliminary research first. I go to the Recorder's Office and in less than 2 minutes can usually see how involved it will be and then just so I don't work for free, I give them a price per hour. I have never been turned down for these orders and I have the option of bowing out if it's too long for me to fit into my schedule with my regular clients' work. I also tell them I will complete them as soon as possible, but it may not be in 24 hours. I have discussed this with the other Abstractors in my area and this is what we do in Idaho.
Hope this helps.
