Au contraire, mon frere. The "middle class" is shrinking because it's being taxed out of existence. The Fair Tax has no filing requirements, no loopholes and no "hidden taxes". It also provides for a family consumption allowance to cover all sales tax on essential items. A family of four would receive a rebate check of about $500 per month. Combined with the repeal of all income and payroll taxes, citizens of all income levels would enjoy an increase in economic well-being.
The so-called "upper class" now hides most of its wealth in off-shore accounts and tax shelters, which accounts for about $11 trillion by some estimates. There is also the "underground economy" of roughly $970 billion, (those earning money "under the table") whose incomes are untaxed for the most part. Under this plan, drug dealers, illegal aliens and everyone else who doesn't pay income tax would be paying their fair share.
You really ought to give it a closer look before you reject it out of hand, Rob.

Scott Perry
