I love posts like this. I always reiterate a principle of civil law: nobody is going to enforce your rights for you; they are yours and yours alone to know and assert.
This is especially true when it is a customer whom you are attempting to provide service to. Your obligation is to maintain the privacy of the client (including from nosey clerks), while obtaining the public records that they need. Not as simple as it seems sometimes, eh?
