Cliff: They contacted us about a month ago (Michigan) and we have done a few orders for them. There is always the chance that they are a wolf in sheep's clothing. We've done as much research as we can, and since we're not doing huge amounts of work for them, we'll give them the benefit of the doubt BUT THEY WILL BE ON A VERY SHORT LEASH UNTIL THEY PROVE THEY PAY THEIR BILLS. My company (Argent Title Research) can really take a hard hit because we pay out to the abstractors whether we get paid or not. However, if you're working just for yourself, the only thing you would be out would be copy costs and time. I'm not downplaying the "time" aspect...none of us have enough, even now that it's slow...but you're in a good position to at least give them a fair shot.
Please let us know if you find out anything. I will try to post here after we bill them for the first month and give you the outcome.
