I would be thrilled if out of state Title Companies would stop requesting "tax info".
Many of the individual towns in Massachusetts do not have the info posted online and a verbal on the phone is subject to a lot of error. We have a Municipal Lien Certificate system that lawyers in Mass. obtain and record with their mortgages in order to ensure that taxes, water & sewer are current.
This absolves the abstractor from including this in their report or exam. I am happy for the work offered to us by out of state Title Companies... but if you are going to loan money and record mortgages in Mass. , why not adhere to the sytem in place.
