Ohio does not recognize the traditional Joint Tenancy or Tenancy by the Entireties, so you are right - it wouldn't apply in Ohio. However, Ohio does still have dower rights to protect a spouse. A spouse should always sign a conveyance to release dower rights. If the spouse doesn't sign, the grantee would take subject to the dower interest; a one-third life estate interest in the property.
