Two generations of feast or famine - Bobbi Shorthouse, Notary Public/CT

By its very nature residential real estate is "feast" or "famine," from two generations of family in banking, lending, appraisals, title searches, real estate brokers, law and closings.  "Month end" the busiest for getting loan documents out and "closing" loans; borrowers don't have the cash-in-hand or want to avoid any prepaid interest due on their loan and at least "one month" without a loan payment (particularly those purchasing a home).  Title searchers are the ASAP pipeline as soon as the underwriter reviews the application, appraisal and has a "commitment" from the borrower.  The title search is ASAP because the closing title company or attorney doesn't want to order it too soon and end up paying for the search if the borrower decides to walk away from the loan prior to a solid commitment to borrow or the loan-to-value based on the appraisal isn't what the borrower wants to commit to.

Brought up on this from older generations:  When there's work, we work hard, 24/7 (on a lot of coffee and very little sleep) and bank the money.  When there's no work we organize our office, work on those things we thought of to streamline what we do, go out to dinner and take a short relaxing vacation.  And within a few days, we wish for the phone to start ringing again.

I left the overwhelming world, but still remember just working through it because I knew down time would come.  "Unsettling," only if you don't LOVE what you do.  Then it's not work, it's a lifestyle you and your family adjust to.
