[-] FEES/TURN TIMES - F P/VA (9 replies)
8/19/2016 1:11:23 PM (2480 views)

Not too long ago I saw a client post on here wanting to know something along the lines of how to get a better turn time from abstractors.  I have debated on posting this, knowing many abstractors think the same way I do, but would never share their true feelings here for fear of being bullied (for lack of a better word).

I provide less than 24 hour turn times for a very reasonable fee. I provide quality work that you never have to call me to say I left off something, or forgot copies, or missed something.  I have consistently been cut off and told another abstractor came in with a lower fee and if I didn't lower my fee I would not receive any work.  I know, for a fact, through friends I have at various VM's and title companies, that my turn times are much better than their other abstractors.  After several years of being asked to lower my fee and agreeing to a lower fee each time (only after again being cut off) I have to ask.  How can anyone give the impression that turn times are what matters most, when actually it is fees that matter most?  I turn your work in, in under 8 hours for only $5.00 more than the other abstractor who is taking almost 48 hours to turn it in.  Looks like turn times do not matter.

My clients who pay me a reasonable fee will always get their work back to them before I will get the work back to the company demanding impossibly low fees.   You do know you are also paying for turn times, don't you?  Lower fees = higher turn times.  Higher fees = lower turns times. (see how that works?) If you all are being honest, you give more attention and better service to your clients you make the most money off of; go ahead, deny it.

And before you all pounce, yes, it's my decision what to charge, and no, quality of my work doesn't appear to matter, and yes I know this is the nature of the business.   I cant compete with abstractors who agree to a small fee and then they turn around and give the order to someone overseas who will only charge them $8.00.

For all the hours I work, quality of my work, ability to exceed your turn around time, if you pay less then reasonable fees, your work will be done last, after all my clients who pay a reasonable fee, and who really are concerned with turn times.

Ok, attack (my opinions, my grammar, my spelling, have at it )
