Oh heck.....I will throw my 2 cents in lol

As a large and in charge woman I personally wear shorts year round. I do not know about other states and/or counties, but I do know about the counties I work in they keep the temp 2 degrees hotter than HELL all year long.  I understand what you are saying about professionalism but "the times they are a changing".  I would have to guess 98% of the abstractors do not have face to face contact with their clients. Lets face facts all courthouses are in the ghettos of the counties.....there is no reason to dress up unless you choose too.  Best bet is to not draw attention to yourself so you do not get beat and robbed.

As far as bringing children with you to the county.....sometimes it can not be helped. And you have to train children to act correctly in society.  I know it does not seem like parent of today give a rats behind about fetching up these youngins.......that's because they aren't allowed to.  You can't correct a child because some nosey karen/kevin will call the cops on you. I personally have brought my son from a young age to the office and county with me and brought him up in the business.  Now I am working on my next generation with my 3 grand-littles.  It is amazing if you involve them how much they actually learn. Training them to respect the history of those books and to try and make them understand that someone wrote in that very book they are touching over a 100 year or more...... just makes me awestruck!!

I have been in counties that I would love to go up to a few abstractors and smack their heads together and tell them to SHUT THE HELL UP!!!  I don't want to hear about the kids, the husband/wife, who is banging who, what you got on sale, where you are going on vacation and did you see who so and so is doing work for (this part annoys me and means you are being nosey as hell and need to mind your business) Just Saying!!!  Some abstractors who work together on a daily basis form bonds and that is a fantastic thing. And sometimes on occasion the forget and get a little loud.  Normally if you plop a book down a little harder than normal and give a look, they realize they are being loud and that is the end of it.

Unfortunately things are changing and it never seems for the better. Us "seasoned abstractor/searchers" need to throw our 50 cents into the ring as often as we can.

I get where you are coming from it would be nicer if we could all be more uniformed.  Or at least on the same darn page!!!

I hope everyone has a fantastic day!!
