I actually rarely wore a tie unless I was meeting outside with clients.

Typically it was: black suit, nice dress shirt. Once I was in the archives dealing with "dusty books", the jacket came off. Or it was nice Khakis or dark-grey "agent" pants, nice dress shirt and that was usually in the summer time(North Carolina EASILY gets 90+ PLUS humidity...glad I am in Arizona now).
