My techical knowledge is limited...so consider the source. I use HP CAPSHARE and that is what I believe uses OCR. The CAPSHARE then stores the information, transfers to a CPU (by cable or wirelessly) and then printed by the computer in .TIF. The results are such that it is often better than any TOWN/COUNTY CLERKS OFFICE.

OCR is defined by me as OPICAL CHARACTER RECOGNITION, which is the ability of a device to recognize printed words in two or more passes on a page. When the device is passed over a page (HP CAPSHARE) the magic within the machine matches the words on the two passes and puts them together into a readible printable form.

Likewise, a digital camera would have to be able to photograph a page of print from 1'-2' in distance, elimiate the wrinkles, curves, and other hazards found in most old deed books, and then put them (the words) into a readible printable form.

The problem with CAPSHARE is 1) they don't make them any more; 2) there is no device that I know of that takes their place; 3) when I last looked they were selling for >$800. on EBAY; 4) I seen some abstractors rubbing the pages of documents so hard that they are encouraging the powers that be to ban CAPSHARES. (You can eliminate this problem by placing a steel or glass clipboard under the page to be copied)

NOW ANSWER MY QUESTION: What camera can replace the CAPSHARE?
